Will my doctor’s office take this insurance?Top ↑
This insurance is accepted wherever Medicare is accepted.
If your doctor accepts payments from Medicare, (s)he will accept State Mutual’s Medicare Supplement. You are free to choose your healthcare providers, and are not restricted to a network of doctors and hospitals.
What will I need to apply for a Medicare Supplement policy?Top ↑
Typically you will need your Medicare card, current insurance card, and checking account information to apply. In certain circumstances you may also need a list of your current medications.
Is a bank draft the only way to pay?Top ↑
Bank drafts are the safest, most convenient, and preferred method of payment. We offer a Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annual, or Annual bank draft as a convenience to our policyholders.
Is there an application fee or policy fee?Top ↑
No, there is no application fee or policy fee. It is free to apply with State Mutual Insurance Company.
Will I be approved?Top ↑
While a majority of applicants are approved, there is no guarantee that everyone will qualify for coverage. However, submitting an application is free.
How will I know if I am accepted?Top ↑
If you apply online, you will receive notification within minutes of completing the application. If you chose to apply through our fulfillment center you will receive notification through the mail typically within 10-14 days.
Do I have to have a physical exam?Top ↑
No physical exam is required to be approved for State Mutual’s Medicare Supplement. You may have to answer few health questions and enter your drug information in certain circumstances, but a physical exam is never required.
Do I have to wait for the Open Enrollment period?Top ↑
No, you may enroll at any time. Unlike some insurance plans, you may apply for State Mutual’s Medicare Supplement at any point throughout the year.
Do I get a discount if my spouse enrolls?Top ↑
No, there is no household discount if your spouse enrolls. Our prices are competitive for everyone.
Do you have agents in my state?Top ↑
No, we do not have a field force of agents.

Is there a waiting period for pre-existing conditions?Top ↑
No, there is no waiting period for pre-existing conditions. If you are approved for a State Mutual Medicare Supplement policy we will honor any claims after the effective date of your policy.
Can I use the insurance if I move out of state?Top ↑
Yes, as long as you continue to pay your premiums your policy will remain active even if you move.
